Life and Times of Denali

  • February 22, 2004- Dark Bay filly foaled at Hopewell Farms, Lexington, Kentucky
  • September 24, 2005-Sold for $38,000 at the Keenland Auction in Kentucky to a group in Washington State.
  • January 30, 2006-Storm City Slew registered with the Jockey Club
  • April, 2006- Denali is set to race in her first race, but is scratched.
  • May 26, 2008-Storm City Slew's first (and last) race at Emerald Downs
  • June, 2008- Given to her "forever home" by her trainer.
  • July 6, 2008-Picked up by her "forever home" by a jockey's wife.
  • July 6, 2008-Purchased at the Enumclaw Auction.
  • March 1, 2009-Entered into training for Dressage
  • September 7, 2009 - Punctured her right hind, and showed up with a huge hemotoma on her girth line.
  • October, 2009- Seen by the Vet for puncture wound (again), and diagnosed with EPM
  • November-December 2009 - Treated for EPM
  • December 2009- Mom hurt her knee, and found a lessor to ride Ms. D
  • April 2010-Denali tore her suspensory
  • November 6, 2010- Denali seen by vet, and bodywork started
  • November 13, 2010- Denali taken to Vet's barn for 2 weeks of bodywork, Nerological problems arise, and Denali is having a hard time walking without tripping.
  • November 17, 2010- We decided that the best thing would be for Denali to be free of her pain due to her nerologic problems.
  • November 26, 2010- Denali is scheduled to be put down, but it snowed and the truck cancelled. Denali is turned out and is sound, with very little nerological signs.
  • November 27, 2010-We start the long road of rehab.
  • March 2011- Denali is turned out for the first time in two years.
  • November 20, 2011-Denali is "retired" to a farm. 
  • May 10, 2012-Denali leaves on a "carelease" to her new home in Montana. The hardest decision I've had to make, but at least she's alive and happy. All my love to my heart horse.
