Pony in a Pasture

Princess (who still has a swollen spot on the outside of the left hind) eatting grass in the pasture with the rest of the herd. She wants nothing to do with them. Nothing at all. One of them, who is the SWEETEST boy EVER, was trying so hard to be her friend. The whole herd was over eatting grass and Dollar (I think that's his name) looked up and saw her by herself, and walked over to her. Denali, Denali was unimpressed. I tried telling her that he was being nice, but she just turned her butt towards him, and went back to eatting some grass.

Dollar, being rejected by Ms. Denali Slew. :(  She was standing at the gate when I showed up, and standing at the gate when I left. I hope that she decided to wander around and explore. I don't think she feels really well. When I was leaving the barn she was standing at the gate nickering at me, and I of course being the mature adult that I am started to bawl. I hate having her so far from me. I know it's the right place for her, but I hate that I can't make it out everyday.

So nice to see her out and doing so much better.
Poor Dollar :( Poor you, feeling bad to leave - at least you know she's in a good place.

What a beautiful place! I am sure she will adjust eventually to living with other horses. Its just a change for her for now. I will keep her in my prayers for sure!

Glad to see that she's getting out and about! Still sending Jingles Denali's way :)

This must be so hard for you but at least she's alive, getting great care and improving. I never really thought about the fact that racehorses aren't really around other horses. Poor thing thinks you're her herd instead of the horses. Sigh. I'm sure she will eventually realize they are good company and start spending some time with them. :) Horses are very adaptable.

I think she'll learn to be friends with the other horses, it just takes time when they didn't grow up in a herd (mine didn't either and there was a period of adjustment when he just didn't "get it" about the other horses). I know it's really difficult to leave her and not see her every day, but look at it this way: when mom's not there, maybe she'll be more inclined to look for company from the other horses. Hope she is feeling better soon.

Grass is important! Nice that she's able to get out and around a bit.

Like everyone else, I think it's awesome to see Denali on grass...she's come so far in 2 short weeks!

Don't worry too much about her herd interactions. The important thing is she's not beating up other horses and she's not getting beat up. I've never seen a horse stay outside of the herd for too long. One day you'll drive out there and see her grazing alongside everyone else:) Glad she's doing so well!
I know how hard it is to not see your pony everyday...I hate it too, and I'm not dealing with all the challenges you and Denali are. You already know you are doing the best thing ever for her right now...I think she looks like she's right where she needs to be, for right now:) Take care~
