Mare Love

Apparently my life has gotten boring. That's not a bad thing and I'm not complaining. Yesterday was the 4 month anniversary of our accident in the trailer. I think I'm going to have some permanent reminders of the accident. My leg still has a huge indent and is still black and blue. My ribs still hurt but the bruising on my back is almost gone. All impressive if you ask me. I know there are bad horse accidents all the time, and usually I don't hear about them but some major accidents have happened to some acquaintances, and they are lucky to be alive. One woman got bucked off her horse and while she was flying her horse kicked her back up. She broke her back, her neck, 7 ribs, among other things. I couldn't imagine. A girl at the GWBB has a beautiful HUGE 4 year old TB who got spooked and started bucking. He bucked her into the wall and like me she was convinced she was fine. They made her go to the hospital anyway, and on the way she had a seizure in the car. She cracked her helmet in half, and she is REALLY luck.

Saturday was the Spring Fling at the center where Denali lives. It is the annual (but the first once since the center has been opened since October) fund raising event. I made up some gift certificates for my little business to auction off, and got to see some of my products on the butts of horses. I still need to make a "How To" photo montage for the three bag tail bag. Anyone out there use a three tube tail bag and want to take photos of putting it on? I'll make you a tail bag in return. E-mail me if interested.

Denali wanted nothing to do with me whatsoever. She was in the field with with her boyfriends and her "son" eating and playing. When I finally opened the gate to walk in she looked at me like, "OH! OH, you want me for something." Then I had to fend off the rest of the herd to get her out. She was hilarious. I wish more people could meet her because I think you'd LOVE her personality!! She has been given treats when she comes, and I forgot them. She kept looking at me like, "Um, excuse me. You forgot something...." Cute mare.
Edit to add the photo: This is Denali's "son", lol, he's a 2 year old who is glued to her side and she's pretty attached to him too. They are HILARIOUS together. He LOVES her. She has no baby. :) (EVER!)

I've been stretching out her front legs in her stall because it helps me to get over my horse/small space claustrophobia. She is so funny. I keep cookies in my pocket, and she leans forward and tries to get them (which stretches her neck) but there are times she's on two legs and totally leaning into me. I love the noises that she makes when she does it.

In other good news, remember the large lump on her neck behind her ear?? I went to massage it yesterday for the first time and it's gone!! All gone, and she wasn't sensitive at all. LOVE my mare!

Is she sound to ride? Is she sane to ride? (Always a concern!) What's your plan?

Sound? It looks like it. Sane? Depends on the day. Plan? Wait. April 28 will mark 1 year since she tore her suspensory. I am not going to push her until after that point. After that, sit down with vet to discuss options. If she thinks that she'll hold up to training, off to training she goes. If she doesn't then pasture puffing it some more.

That sounds like a good day to me!

I can't wait until you're riding her again. I was reading through the archives the other day and it almost made me cry, reading about you almost losing her (sorry to bring it up..).

You two are an amazing pair, truly a gift from God. :)

thank you! I have gone from wanting to get her going, being bummed out that I couldn't, to appreciating ever moment and just enjoying time with her. I don't need to be on her back to do that.

Around horses boring is GOOD! :)

That sucks about the horse accidents. As much of a paranoid, worry wart that I am I'm shocked I ever get on one lol. I will always wear my helmet though (rode western as a kid and didn't wear one). Scary. Thanks for the reminder.

That's awesome about the bump being gone! I'm glad she's healing up even though it's taken a while. I can't wait until April to find out if she will be going to training. Regardless you're lucky to still have your beautiful, loving mare (that I do wish I could meet!).

I use a three tube tail bag and could take pictures, would this weekend be okay to do it? Let me know if you have someone already signed up to do it.

Wow, I can't believe those brusies are still showing! What a great idea about working in the stall though... I'd never thought of that before.

And yes, Boring is a Good Thing! Now that Panache is cantering again after the suspensory strain last June I'm totally paranoid about any un-boring things happening. Can't wait to see your girl in SmartPak!

Thanks Appy! Someone else signed up to do it. I may contact you to do a single tube tail bag if I can't get to a horse very soon. 50 Miles seperates me from one VERY VERY muddy mare.
