Nobel Peace Prize

My husband needs nominated for it.... My student from the previous post? He's currently sleeping on our couch. He's unmedicated and we're exhausted! I'll post more later. I also need to tell you about Denali yesterday! This is my reminder!!

Raising a child with special needs is not easy. I know. I have one. It takes a special kind of person to willingly take on a child like this. You'll do great.

I wish you the best of luck caring for him!

It's not gonna be easy, with all the kids that went through where I lived, there was always a "honeymoon period" for a little while after they've moved in, where they're on their best behavior. When they realise you're not going to move them on, they start relaxing and they start acting up, testing your limits, seeing which of your buttons they can press. Most kids who've been bounced around do it and it's gonna be tough, but stick with him and it'll be worth it in the end.

The only other thing I can say, is that even if he does have special needs, treat him like you would any other kid. Put him in good clothes, set boundaries, teach him good manners and take him to the dentist when he needs it. It's amazing the amount of badly behaved kids you see with grubby clothes and bad teeth, simply because the parents see the disability before they see the child. "Please," "Thankyou" and a good set of gnashers will send him a long way.

Again, good luck!
