Horse Tails

I just finished ordering Ms. Denali a new blanket. I got another tack catalog in the mail, and what can I say: it was a great price!! I love clearance sales. I HATE, HATE, HATE shopping for myself, but I could shop for DAYS for Ms. Denali. This blanket is lighter weight than her current blanket. Denali's current winter blanket (which I LOVE) is a Rambo Supreme. It was expensive, but it definitely keeps her toasty warm in our wet, WET winters. Ms. D, however, had put on some extra muscle/weight and her 78 is now a little tight across her butt. The shoulders are great! The red circles (or close to circles) are where her blanket is rubbing. I'm still not going to order her an 80, I've tried them and it was just so huge on her that it's not an option. Still trying to figure out what to do about the current blanket.

I had mentioned that this weekend I went to visit my friend's horse. He's a very cool Paint, but gets really itchy when he's shedding. I was scratching his butt for him, then moved away. He was pretty convincing that I continue scratching. He's always been like this. At my first barn he use to walk backwards into people so they'd scratch him. His new owner has him on a lot of different skin supplements that have improved his skin itching a lot! Every once in a while, he just wants a good scratch. Don't worry, I didn't press too hard!

Yea we love the Rambo (horseware) blankets. The lower end Amigo blankets are also very good; especially for being really inexpensive.

We really were unprepared this year. The older senior horse returning home from the ex-wife needed all new blankets; the TB and Draft needed new heavies. So we planned and saved to buy all new heavy blankets in Nov/Dec expecting the weather to be cold an ucky like last year. So what happens; it's all warm and we didn't have light weights yet. UGH.... But everyone got all new light weight blankets this week, so were good.

The Draft has a Weather Beata (probably spelled wrong) mid weight, and it just doesn't breathe like the horseware ones. He's always swimming in sweat.

The senior mare was using me as a scratching post the other night. Just came up to me, and normally she just leans up against me and naps; but this time she rubbed her side all across my back like one of those cow scratching brushes. Not exactly proper lady like behavior for a mare. But it was so funny I just let her do it. Heck, she's 28 she's allowed to be silly and naughty things from time to time.

:) That was my problem! Her Rambo is too heavy, so I saw a lighter weight Amigo that was on clearance. The fact that it was red and 1200D sold me on it! It was only 78$ and has 200g fill. Not bad I thought. It's from Jeffers equine. Crazy website, but super easy to deal with.

Love old horses! They're my favoriate!

Darn it, I bet you took my red!!! I got stuck with two greys, I ordered a red one but they called and said they were all sold out. My TB mare would have looked so much better in red. Lame....

Sorry. I just ordered it last night, so maybe it was a different one? All of Denali's blankets are red. :)

I found a tack store I love when I was up visiting my parents in Canada. The website is www.greenhawk.net .Their spring flyer is out (and on their website) and they have some awesome package deals. They have a rainy days package I’m going to order. Because my little buddy likes to cake himself in mud when it rains and by the time I’m done grooming him, I’m exhausted and won’t ride. I was up in Canada last summer I picked up the riding apparel package which included breeches, paddock boots, short chaps, a helmet, gloves, and a crop all for like $129. Their stuff is very well made. I got Piney’s heavy winter blanket from there and it’s held up against his nippy, chewy paddock buddy. But sadly they don’t have many colors for horses. Everything seems to be navy or green or plaid. And of course the stuff I plan on ordering doesn’t come in Green, Piney’s color. But like I said I’ve been very happy with everything I’ve gotten from there.
