Re-Introduction

Hi. Let me Re-introduce myself:

I have zero desire to WIN first place on my horse, I have all the desire in the world to put my horse FIRST.

I am confident that with the right rider, she could go far, but that rider is not me, and I don't want her going anywhere.

I do not own the world's most amazing horse (in my OPINION I do), nor will she go Grand Prix, but she is mine, and I wouldn't sell her for a million dollars.

I am a re-rider, this time dressage, 10-15 years ago, I did hunter/jumper at a barn that would probably be featured on the fuglyblog.

I am learning. I am learning about dressage, I am learning about riding, I am learning what it is like to take on an OTTB as your first horse, but you know what? No one can love her like I do.

This blog is about me learning, and in my learning sometimes I am wrong.

This blog is my opinion. Sometimes I'm spot on, and other times (see learning) I am wrong.

Giving me grief doesn't make it go away, BUT you can if you don't like it.

My rant for the morning. Thank you.

I see so many similarities between you and I, and Denali and Honey (my mare) as well! I'm a re-rider that took on a very green young mare. I love her dearly despite her hot temperment and (at times crazy) antics. Love reading your blog!

I think you're doing quite well with Denali. I have encountered quite a few racehorses as well as ex racers, and they can be a handful. You are educated on horses, as well as modest and realistic. I admire you as a horse person.

Thanks everyone, someone, somewhere else suggested differently. Needless to say, I'm not pleased.

I really think anyone who is getting professional help should NEVER be criticized. They are taking the right step to improvment regarless of where they currently are.

They are also paying for the professional help and not cheap'ing out with the typical "I don't need to pay for an instructor or trainer I can just watch RFD.Tv, read an online horse forum, watch my handy-dandy natrual horsemanship training dvd set, or just you-tube!" mind set.

Yes, all of the above does make excellent supplemental training aids, but nothing comes close to a quality instructor that will work with you and your horse to get you to your goals!

Didn't you just post about moving on to a new barn and trainer to help you get over some problems your still having? To me; that is not only uncommon (seeking more pro-help) but it is also great for you and your horse!
Not as many people out there as you think would would do (or even consider) that.

Ouch. Hope you're doing ok. Mentally, that is. With Denali, you seem to be doing really well. How did the lesson go?

Thanks SB, I'm fine. I'm one tough cookie, but I am passive aggressive. My FB quote says, "Some people forgive and forget, I plot revenge." he he he (*snicker*) he he he...

Going to the lesson at 3. I haven't told my trainer that I'm having a lesson somewhere else. I feel shady.

Hello,
I've been following your blog for a while (I even read the hole thing.)I have the same issues as you with my young OTTB, but with time things are getting better. We are the best of friends, but I still have my moments. I just wanted too wish you good luck. It seems to me you are doing great! :)

You are a good horse mamma! That I can tell after all that you have been through with Denali. No one starts out horse owning as an expert, it is definitely a learn as you go process - I know I learn something new every day! Anyone who tells you differently is flat out lying. Keep up the good work and don't ever let stupid people get you down.

You can't please everyone, unfortunately... ESPECIALLY in the horse world. There's 100 ways to accomplish the same thing, but everyone is convinced their way is the RIGHT way and the ONLY way at that. It seems like a lot of horse people are very black and white, an irony I never fully understood since it seems to defy the logic that all horses are different and no two fit the same mold. *shrug* Opinions are like assholes, you know the old adage...

At any rate, I love your blog. I am in a similar situation myself, adult rerider. After many years out of the saddle I skipped the natural progression to pick back up with lessons and skipped right to the "Let's adopt an untrained wild mustang and break her myself" business. A decision I am pleasantly surprised hasn't killed me (or her) yet! :) Your blog always gets me laughing because I experience many of the same sentiments in my work with Cheyenne, "yup, I know that THAT goes..." Keep on bloggin' on, I look forward to your posts! :)

Lol. Yep, I too totally skipped the natural progression back into horse ownership. I wish I wouldn't have done it that way, BUT then I wouldn't have the beast.

Sounds like someone overstepped the mark! I too am a re-rider and have similar aspirations. I have no desire to conquer the world either, just to enjoy my riding and give my horse a good life at the same time.

Whoever said whatever is NOT worth your time! Ignore and remember karma is a witch - are doing great with Denali and I am living vicariously through your adventures :-).

You're referring to the rollkur post on that other girl's blog, right? Don't listen to her. Although that video may not have been perfect, rollkur has been proven to be both physically and mentally harmful for horses. Who knows why she defends it, but she's obviously not worth getting angry at. Just let it roll off you like water off a duck's back.

It was a non-internet person, and I'm better now. :) I'm not worried about the rollker post. They wouldn't be having closed door meetings about it if it was GOOD for the horses. Although I meant it when I said that Denali foams a lot at the mouth, but that's because she continually plays with the bit.

I still have a lot to learn in the dressage world, but if I know it's bad. Then it must be bad!! :)
